How do you get to that price?” Most people are not satisfied with the price of anything, unless it is free (and even then you can find issues with some items and services). Texas fee battle You need to create a pricing outline which you feel comfortable defending and you know is fair. But what do you do when someone questions your fees? You have a few options! Nip It In The Bud Try to be open about your pricing policy online, so the consumer knows from the get-go where your number is coming from. Base fees are determined by the state, so when you have additional fees, such as a travel expense, tacked on, ensure you have a disclaimer. It’s All in The Details Providing your clients with a detailed receipt, or having an explanation of your fees handy makes people more aware of what they are paying for, and, thus, more willing to agree to your price. For instance, the travel fee is not included in the state-mandated prices, so come to an agreed upon price before the notarization occurs, so you know your client is aware of the charge. Always decide on the fee before the notarization takes place. The receipt you provide to your clients should be itemized to match your fee book. Texas law requires the use of a fee book, and for your records these transactions should be itemized as well. Always Be Kind Whenever you have discussions about your fee, remember your worth, but also remember you do not want to alienate clients. If you want to stick by your price, be firm, but nice—as always! A person is more likely to pay a little more when they like the notary, and refer you to their friends! So, remember how far a smile goes. With time, you’ll learn what works best for you. Some people may refuse your service based on your price, but if it is a fair, competitive price, realize there are others out there who will recognize the quality of your service.
